Our New Abode

We have been living in Evanston for the past 5 years. In an act of God on October 5th. We bought this house. When we got home I sent this e mail out to most of our friends and family.

Hello Friends and Family

I must share yesterdays amazing adventure. Many of you know that Mike and I have embarked on a search for a house that we can afford, that lets me be home with the kids, has enough space, and is in good shape. A few weeks ago we looked at some houses in South Lockport IL and that was not the answer we hoped it would be. Yesterday we went to the town of Marseilles IL. This small town is on the Rock Island train line. It is adjacent to Illini State Park. It is about 40 minutes from Joliet where Mike teaches. So if you want to look it up it is in La Salle County IL. It is south west of Chicago. When we arrived in town Mike stopped into the first Realtor across the street from where we parked. There he met Aunt Nancy. Aunt Nancy looked up some listings for us and gave us a map of town, shared with us some ideas for a place for lunch, and told us she had a 2 pm meeting but could show us any of the hoses if we were interested. From there we walked to a listing on 380 Washington Street. This house was listed at 62,500. It has two bedrooms, a full basement, a detached one car garage, an enclosed front porch, an enclosed back porch, a reasonable sized back yard, and central air. We really wanted to see the inside. But we were hungry so we had lunch. We went to the Illini Lounge where we met the owners who recommended we see Aunt Nancy if we were interested in house shopping in the area. Also a business man from down state was there who recommended visiting Aunt Nancy for house shopping. By the way I had the best fried chicken that I have had ever, it even beats West Virginia fried chicken. So then we went back to Aunt Nancy to see if she or an associate could show us the house. She was there and changed an appointment so she could show us the house. So off we went. We saw the basement first, a good furnace with a promise of a new furnace, a new water heater, solid wiring, a bathroom, and plenty of storage. Then we went upstairs. The house has an enclosed back porch and a deck. A nice kitchen with a new floor, (there was a place in the closet where you could see the old floor and it was the yellow floor we had in the kitchen of the house I grew up in). The bathroom on the first floor has a hook up for a washer and dryer. There is a dining room and two good sized bedrooms. There is a living room with a lead glass window. Then we went to the enclosed, heated porch. I was in love. It has hard wood floors throughout. The house needs some love. A good scrubbing, maybe some paint, but at that price that's not bad. We did look at a second house, it was kinda weird. The other thing I must tell you all is that Mike and I share a car and the other day I was crying out to God that wherever we move I have to be able to walk or bike to places. In this town there are sidewalks, I can walk to parks, the elementary school, the library, the grocery store, downtown where there are shops and things to do. And Aunt Nancy told me remember "I am Aunt Nancy if you need to get somewhere and Mike cant get you there, I'll take you". Well we wanted that house. So we went to the office, Nancy went to her meeting, and we started the paperwork. We made an offer of 60,000, We are pre approved for a loan up to 100,000. The owner accepted our offer. Let me tell you a little about GOD working here. This town and house has everything I cried out to GOD for this week. The house went on the market 8 days ago. There were 8 showings scheduled for today. The paper work is started. He was to sign last night. We signed before we left town. We are scheduled for an inspection on Friday the 12th at 11:30 am. The closing date is Nov 30th. WOW is GOD good.

So some prayer requests: Pray the inspection goes well and there are no problems with the house.
Pray we have our down payment of 5,000.
Pray that we find a job for me in the area that provides health insurance at part time hours
Pray Mike finds a job closer to supplement his teaching income/and that could provide insurance.
Pray we find affordable good appliances; we need a stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer. The stove and refrigerator are the first need.
Pray we can make a positive transition from our current employer and that they find new staff that will do well by them.
Most of all PRAISE GOD FOR HE IS GOOD!!!!!

Love Katie

This friday we head to the house for the inspection. I will take more pictures and fill you in on the next step and answers to prayer.
